AIA150 Update: Project Nearing Final Stages
Patricia Sherman FAIA and Michael Castagna, who both received “Outstanding Service Awards” at the AIANH Awards Banquet, reported on the current status of the project.

Patricia and Michael both feel that the AIA150 goals are being achieved in Durham. The project is seen in a very positive light by the community and the town government due to the efforts of all involved, not the least of which are the contributions of Dave Howland and Julian Smith, the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Mill Plaza Committee.

The town of Durham and the town Library are currently working on a proposal to the owner in which the town would build the first leg of the road through the site as a public road in exchange for some land for its new library. A major meeting with the owner is scheduled for late February. His responses will be blended into the hybrid scheme, which the Design teams are working on, and will be shown at a Public Forum in March. At that point the project will be finished except for the final reports to the Town Council and the completion of our video that will enable us to share the process with other communities in the state.

Funds are still needed to complete this effort in which so many Architect and Affiliate members are donating pro bono design work. These funds are needed for professional help with facilitation and videography.

You can help contribute to the success of the AIA150 project and insure that the lessons learned can be shared with other communities! Contributions can be sent to the AIANH Office at PO Box 398, Keene, NH 03431. Thank you for your help! For more information on NH's AAI150 project go to:: www.aianh.org/aia_150.asp

2008 AIA Convention Travel and Registration Scholarships for Emerging Professionals
The AIA Convention is particularly enriched when young professionals participate. But all too often it's only the principals who can afford to attend. Many people just starting their careers find the cost of travel, registration, accommodations and time away from work prohibitive.

A new scholarship program conceived by the BSA and supported by the AIA, assists young professionals who otherwise would not be able to attend. Travel scholarships of up to $500 may be awarded to 100 or more individuals through the BSA program and individuals who receive travel scholarships also enjoy free convention registration through the AIA. Firms, schools, AIA chapters and others that support the participation of students and young professionals through direct travel assistance are listed as sponsors as are companies contributing to the AIA Convention Young Professionals Scholarship Fund.

For complete details, including applications and sponsorship information, go to the BSA Website.
