Additional Guidance for Potential Conflict between the Codes:
The NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, 2015 edition addresses construction, protection, and occupancy features necessary to minimize danger to life from the effects of fire, proper design and function of egress, and other protective safeguards essential to life safety.

As such, when you are utilizing the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, 2015 edition, both the referenced publications in Chapter 2 and the specifically cited editions are required as part of this Code.
When the underlying requirement comes from NFPA 101 (2015), stay in NFPA 101 (2015) to include those referenced publications/editions to the extent possible.  If the underlying requirement comes from NPFA 1 (2009) stay in NFPA 1 (2009) to include those referenced publications/editions to the extent possible.
