2030 & Beyond: Setting Goals and the Process for Implementing Net Zero / 2030

AIANH presented the AIA+2030 Series March 2014-February 2015. 2030 & Beyond is a comprehensive, cutting-edge curriculum, building on the success of the AIA+2030 Series and responds to the expressed needs of New Hampshire architects and other design and construction professionals who wish to move to the next level of delivering high performance buildings.

This first session of a 3-part series will cover:
Goal Setting: Based on the 2030 Challenge or other certification program it’s important to work with the client and consultants to identify a target for energy use and understand how to achieve that goal. Process for implementation: What software tools are available and how are they used? What’s the right tool for the company, the project and the design phase? When is modeling not needed?  In what situations is a prescriptive approach prudent and what are those prescriptions? Innovative process, integrated design, detailed construction means and methods to achieve energy goals, financial analysis and office practices and standards are the tools used to achieve the goals and predicted energy model. Getting client to buy in to Net-Zero through modeling the costs associated with achieving building performance targets, innovative financing for the renewable portion of a project. Working with clients to achieve cash-flow neutral or even cash flow positive outcomes for going from code to Net Zero. The Net Zero Energy Feasibility study will explore these assumptions and process further.

Information will cover new construction as well as existing building upgrades.

Instructors: William Maclay AIA, LEED-AP and Laura Cavin Bailey CPHC, both from Maclay Architects and Andy Shaprio, Energy Balance, Inc. In addition we'll have a "ringer" (skeptic from the development community) who will play devil's advocate. Sessions 2 and 3 will be October 7 and November 4. Complete Information and Registration.
