"Intern Friendly" Firms (coming soon)

AIA New Hampshire supports the advancement of recent architecture graduates and Emerging Professionals already in the professional pursuit of licensure. AIANH knows many firms in our state already support Emerging Professionals during the transition period from academia to professional practice. We ask that each firm review the following guidelines to see if your firm is “Intern Friendly.” You firm must meet at least two of the guidelines, but not all.

  1. Establish programs through which Emerging Professionals are mentored by senior level professionals in all areas of the firms practice, including assignment of an individual mentor if requested.

  2. Assist Emerging Professionals in developing knowledge of the NCARB/AIA core competencies through inner office educational programs including speakers, field trips, opportunities to observe presentations, business and educational opportunities and professional organizations outside the work place.

  3. Provide administration and technical support including the furnishing of resource and study materials, record keeping assistance and practice examinations.

  4. Provide paid leave to take the ARE.

  5. Reimburse Emerging Professionals a minimum 50% of the cost related to taking the ARE including enrollment in the IDP, books, and one study course with passage of exam.

The “Intern Friendly” Firm profile will serve as a tool for Emerging Professionals to use during their job search while providing an added recruiting tool for firms. In addition, the program offers Emerging Professionals access to supplementary education activities that augment and enhance their training. Such independent study benefits the office as well as the Emerging Professional.

By emphasizing training, your firm can help Emerging Professionals achieve licensure…and be recognized as “Intern Friendly.” Utilizing the IDP will also help to attract, train, and retain good employees. As an IDP friendly office, your practice will benefit from increased competence, versatility, and production of employees fully exposed to the complexities of professional practice today with little extra effort.
