Scope and Function 

The Director of Design is a member of the Senior Management Team, overseeing the Drafting Team. In consultation with the Principal, this role is responsible for all phases of the design process, including Assessment, Master Planning, Schematic Design and Design Development. The role also contributes to the direction of the operations, aesthetics, and growth strategy of the business. This role is a supervisory role and requires supervisory experience, including an ability to lead with confidence and courage, as well as with genuine respect for all. Strong growth potential for successful leaders. 

Responsibilities Include:

Design and Project Work

Executing all aspects of residential/commercial design work and drawings associated with existing conditions, schematic design presentations, design development, and construction documents.

  • Conducting local code research and interpreting as needed. 
  • Generating or coordinating the development of architectural specifications. 
  • Producing, reviewing and checking detailed Construction Documents for multiple projects.
  • Coordinating drawing set, Revit and Lumion standards.
  • Maintaining an awareness and understanding of project schedules and budgets.
  • Managing relationships with Clients and Contractors.
  • Construction Administration and Project Management. 
  • Coordination of building systems and consultants. 
  • Client interaction and correspondence.

Management Work

  • Member of the Senior Management Team overseeing business operations, overall firm aesthetics, and growth strategy. Attends Sr. Management Team events and meetings. 
  • Managing Drafting Team workflow, redlining drawing sets, and mentoring junior team members. 
  • Providing support and direction to team members, including performance management, in cooperation with Partners and HR. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Must have a passion for architecture and a strong entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Knowledge of residential and commercial architectural practices, procedures and standards. 
  • Knowledge of building codes and materials.
  • Expertise in Revit, Lumion, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite.
